About
Hi — I'm Tia.
Entrepreneur, author, Air Force officer — and I happen to be an attorney licensed in California.
I'm the author behind Joli Jaunts®, a children's picture book series about a curious 8-year-old who flies around the world helping kids one country at a time. I built the publishing company before the book came out. On purpose, though it does sound backwards when I say it out loud.
Building it meant sorting out the contracts, the ownership, and the business side for myself. The illustrator agreement. The trademark, filed first and deliberately. The company, the accounts, the records, the dates. The state did not send me a neat binder and a calm person to explain any of it.
Then over the last year I spent more and more time with authors, publishers, and creative professionals at webinars, seminars, and events. They knew their work. They cared about doing things well. But many didn't have the legal background to sort through every contract, right, filing, and deadline. One person even asked if I could be their lawyer.
One lawyer helping one client at a time was never going to reach the whole industry. So I built something different: Warranted Works — attorney-drafted contract templates and guides for the independent book-publishing industry. Authors, publishers, and the creative pros who work alongside them. Every contract comes with a guide that explains the why behind the clauses. It starts with the same legal and business work I had to sort through for myself.
Why "Warranted"
Warranted means justified, deserved, backed by good reason. Your work is valuable from the first spark of an idea to the moment it reaches a reader.
Works means all of it. Manuscript, illustrations, editing, cover, audio, translation — every contribution that turns an idea into something someone can hold.
And because a lawyer named the company, warranted does double duty: in a contract, a warranty is a promise somebody can be held to. I couldn't resist. The legal pun was warranted.
It's not just contracts
Here's the thing: every author is a business owner, every creator an entrepreneur — even if nobody warned you. That's why Warranted Works is also where I help you understand the intellectual property and business side of building something, the part no one really teaches you. Because protecting your work starts with understanding it.
It comes down to a few questions.
Create It is the making. Who helped make this work, and what did each of them sign?
Own It is the proof. Can you prove this work is yours, and is it held where it should be?
Grow It is the keeping. Who else can use this work, for how long, and are you keeping it alive?
Most people find out they skipped one of those at the worst possible moment.
The honest part
The goal is not to turn you into a lawyer. It's to help you see what's solid, what needs your attention, and what to work on next — including when to bring in help, and the words to explain the issue once you're in the room.
Warranted Works is not a law firm, and nothing here is legal advice. Using these materials does not create an attorney-client relationship. I'm an attorney — just not yours.
Think of these as professional, ready-to-use foundations that put you miles ahead of a blank page. Yours to put to work right away, or to hand to an attorney for a quick review.
Remember, your work is worth protecting.
